The Fox & The Hounds- The Fox & The Hounds

The Fox & The Hounds is a six-piece alternative band whose debut album ‘The Fox & The Hounds’ branches out much further than just one genre. Throughout the album there are a wide variety of musical influences and instruments that make their way through the tracks.

The album itself is made up of thirteen individual songs, and the word individual should be used in praise, as no two songs sound alike at all. The music that they create is quite interesting to hear, and in some parts, surprising. The song ‘Back To You’ makes good use of sound. The musicianship from the band members is to a high standard, and the band highlight their creativity and imagination through for the use of their instruments.

Most of their lyrics have a good concept, and with a little more tweaking they could be really great songs. For example the song ‘Mr Conformity’ has some very strong elements and the idea of the song has so much potential, unfortunately it falls just short of hitting that potential.

The lead vocals of singer Kendel Lester at times can be quite powerful, and she is probably the main positive and focal point of the band. There are times when she doesn’t sound comfortable singing, but for the most part she ticks all the boxes. The main issue of the album, in certain parts of the LP, the band members don’t seem to mix well together and it can come across messy.

Overall, whilst this band does have good qualities and talent, they are yet to reach their full potential. They need to refine themselves as a band and become a tighter unit.
